Flood Emergency Declared in Rawalpindi as Heavy Rainfall Predicted from July 15

Authorities have declared a flood emergency in Rawalpindi following a forecast of continuous heavy rainfall from July 15 to August 31 by the Pakistan Meteorological Department. The alert comes amid growing concerns over urban flooding in the city.
The Rawalpindi district administration has placed all relevant departments on high alert. According to the Deputy Commissioner, seven flood relief camps have been established across key locations to assist residents in case of emergencies. These camps are equipped to provide essential services including shelter, food, medical aid, clean drinking water, and security.

To ensure rapid response and minimize risk, 24-hour monitoring of Nullah Lai and other seasonal streams is underway. A central control room has been activated to coordinate emergency operations, while rescue teams have been equipped with boats and life jackets for timely intervention during potential flooding incidents.
In related developments, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has reopened the spillways of Tarbela Dam due to rising water levels. The PDMA has warned of possible flooding along the Indus River and its tributaries and directed local authorities to remain vigilant and inform residents, especially in vulnerable low-lying areas.
The public has been strongly advised to avoid venturing near rivers, streams, and drains during the rainy period. Fishermen and livestock herders, in particular, have been urged to move to safer areas as a preventive step against flash floods and rising water levels.
The situation continues to be monitored closely, and authorities are preparing for potential emergency scenarios to ensure the safety of residents throughout the expected period of heavy rain.
