Delhi Premier League Season 2 Begins August 2, Women’s Tournament Starts August 17

The second edition of the Delhi Premier League (DPL) will officially begin on August 2, 2025, with an opening ceremony followed by the first men’s match. The tournament will conclude with the men’s final on August 31 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, with September 1 reserved as a backup day in case of rain or other disruptions.

This season will see participation from eight men’s teams and four women’s teams. The men’s competition has been divided into two groups. Group A includes Outer Delhi Warriors, Central Delhi Kings, New Delhi Tigers, and North Delhi Strikers. Group B features West Delhi Lions, East Delhi Riders, South Delhi Superstarz, and Purani Dilli 6. Each men’s team will play 10 matches: two matches against teams within its own group (home and away) and one match against each team from the opposite group, leading to a total of 40 matches.

The playoffs will follow the standard Qualifier-Eliminator format. The top two teams will contest Qualifier 1, with the winner going directly to the final. The third and fourth teams will play the Eliminator, with the winner facing the loser of Qualifier 1 in Qualifier 2 for a spot in the final.

The women’s tournament will run from August 17 to August 24 and will feature four teams playing in a round-robin format. A total of six matches will be played, with the top two teams advancing to the final.

The points system for both men’s and women’s leagues awards two points for a win, while tied matches will be resolved through a Super Over. If a match is abandoned or has no result, each team will receive one point.

DDCA President Rohan Jaitley stated in the official press release that the second season marks significant progress for domestic franchise cricket in Delhi. He highlighted the inclusion of two new men’s teams and the growing platform for women’s cricket, expressing confidence that DPL would continue to evolve into a sustainable league showcasing Delhi’s cricketing talent.
