Aiden Markram and Hayley Matthews Named ICC Players of the Month for June 2025
South Africa’s Aiden Markram and West Indies captain Hayley Matthews have been crowned the ICC Men’s and Women’s Players of the Month for June 2025, following their standout performances in two high-stakes series that delivered historic moments for their respective teams.
Markram earned the men’s accolade for his all-round heroics in the ICC World Test Championship Final against Australia at Lord’s. The 30-year-old right-hander played a defining role in helping South Africa claim their first-ever WTC title and their first senior ICC trophy in 27 years. He scored a magnificent 136 in the fourth innings and took two crucial wickets, including breaking a key partnership and removing the final Australian batter. His second-innings century under pressure, featuring partnerships with Wiaan Mulder and Temba Bavuma, turned the match in South Africa’s favour. Reflecting on the win, Markram called the final a historic moment for South African cricket and credited the victory to the collective efforts of the team.

On the women’s side, Hayley Matthews was honoured with her fourth ICC Player of the Month award after another dominant display, this time in a home T20I series against South Africa. She guided West Indies to a 2-1 series win, scoring 147 runs at an average of 73.50 and a strike rate of over 120, while also picking up two wickets with her off-spin.
Matthews was instrumental in the turnaround after the team lost the opening match, playing unbeaten knocks of 63* and 65 in the next two games. Despite carrying a shoulder injury that limited her performance in the ODI series, she still contributed scores of 40 and 56 and took four wickets. She is now tied with Australia’s Ash Gardner for the most ICC Women’s Player of the Month titles.
