Chicken Prices Surge Across Punjab Amid Rising Costs of Essential Commodities
Households in Lahore and other parts of Punjab are grappling with sharp price hikes in essential commodities, including chicken, eggs, and cooking oil, as inflation hits household budgets. According to the latest rate list issued on Wednesday, chicken prices have surged significantly, with the cost of chicken meat rising by Rs21, bringing the retail price to Rs511 per kilogram in Lahore, up from Rs490.
Both live and dressed chicken prices have increased, with wholesale rates reaching Rs339 per kilogram and retail prices now at Rs353 per kilogram in Lahore. Multan has seen similar spikes, with live chicken priced at Rs322 per kilogram wholesale and Rs336 retail, and chicken meat now selling at Rs485 per kilogram.

Egg prices have also edged upward as winter demand grows. In Lahore, a dozen eggs now cost Rs334, a Rs2 increase from the previous rate, while Multan’s rate has been set at Rs330 per dozen, reflecting an upward trend across the region.
Despite a general decline in national inflation, cooking oil and ghee prices have surged. The price of first-grade cooking oil and ghee has jumped by Rs54 per kilogram, with second and third-grade products increasing by Rs60 per kilogram. First-grade ghee and oil now retail at Rs559, up from Rs505, while second-grade ghee and oil have climbed from Rs440 and Rs452 to Rs500 and Rs512, respectively.
